Marzamemi is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and charming villages in Italy, a small town whose history has been marked by fishing activity. It's a paradise of stone and color, to be explored slowly to admire its most beautiful views. Dominating the small town with its stone houses is its tuna fishery, dating back to Arab times. Over the years, it was renovated by the Prince of Villadorata, who built the entire village around the tuna fishery.
Today, Marzamemi is still overseen by its tuna fishery, although it is no longer operational. Its fishermen still use colorful boats, but the town's vocation has become tourism. The main square and the streets of the town fill with outdoor tables in spring and summer, yet Marzamemi remains an authentic place: "the place of the soul, the deep South of Italy, Magna Graecia," to quote Salvatores. In fact, some scenes from Gabriele Salvatores' film "South" were shot in this village.
We recommend to our guests to rent a car as soon as they land at Catania or Comiso airports. This is the best solution for exploring this part of Sicily. Public transportation options are very limited and infrequent. For parking, we have an agreement with the nearby Scirè parking facility.
